The KUMA Martial Arts Program is registered with Karate Ontario, the only government-recognized karate organization in this province. Karate Ontario is part of the National Karate Association of Canada (NKA), the only federal government (Sport Canada) and Canadian Olympic Committee-recognized karate organization in Canada. The NKA is part of the World Karate Federation (WKF) the only international karate governing body recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

KUMA is also a member of the International Karate Association (IKA) of Canada, a private group headed by Kancho (Director) Takemasa Okuyama, 8th Dan. Kancho Okuyama established his first school in Toronto in 1971. The IKA Canada is recognized by the NKA as a black belt-granting organization. The IKA worldwide, established in 1953 in Japan, is led by President and Soke (founder) Takayuki Kubota, 10th Dan, who lives and teaches in Glendale, California.

KUMA is also a school within the Franco Behring Martial Art Association. Shah Franco of Toronto and Sylvio Behring of Brazil lead this group of mixed martial disciplines with the aim of attaining the best overall training methods and techniques for both self-defence and sport. Their pool of athletes includes amateur and professional fighters in disciplines ranging from traditional karate to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, grappling, and Mixed Martial Arts or cage fighting.
